3 days to go – a bit of a mess

Feature Film: (Dramedy) Chaos reigns when this dysfunctional family gathers after their father dies.

You can cast the best actors you can find, but if your script is lacklustre, and your direction aimless, your film will fail despite the (wasted) great performances (except for Jonathan Boynton-Lee who portrayed a cardboard cut-out). The meandering, preachy, on the nose soap-style script ruins the film. Serious issues are dealt with overnight and everyone gets a happy ending without really doing the work.

It also affects the tone of the film. It is classified as a dramedy but has drama without depth and comedy without many laughs. How the children respond to the death of their father is quite bizarre. The scene where Janet runs into the OR is beyond baffling. The list goes on.

There is the odd beautiful shot, some cool foto montages and a seriously snappy use of the split screen, but as a whole the camerawork is average. The styling is very bling. Even during the dramatic scenes everyone’s hair and make-up is perfect!
