The Black Keys surprise me yet again

January 14, 2012

Just when I thought I knew what The Black Keys sounded like, just when I could say with confidence that I would be able to spot one of their tracks at an ungodly hour in a drunken state in a seedy blues club, (not that I any longer try such antics at my advanced age), just then, they present an album which sounds nothing like them! Bastards! They’ve reinvented themselves once again!

I had to listen to El Camino six times whilst frowning, with my head tilted to one side, to convince myself that it was indeed Patrick and Dan; especially after seeing the SNL performance of the single Lonely Boy.

Once I adjusted my brainwaves to the new sound, at that moment, I succumbed to the charm of their new blend of still blistering, slightly less gothic, yet utterly psychedelic blues rock.
