veggies

January 4, 2010

Today was the first day in our journey towards growing our own organic, non-gm veggies. Whoohoo!

We (the wife and I) planted tomatoes, basil, gooseberries, basil, strawberries, butternut, baby marrows, basil, green peppers, celery, rocket, basil, chicory, basil and chillies.

Okay, so the wife did all the planting, but I searched the internet for companion planting and vertical gardening tips. I also wrote all the labels without which we will most certainly mistake a tomato plant for a weed. Yes, we did not inherit green fingers.

I will post pictures as our produce starts flowering/sprouting/supplying us with food.

We started doing this last year too. Watch those tomato plants – they tend to want to take over the entire vegetable patch.

we’re getting very emotional about the little seedlings popping up all over the house – in the kitchen windowsill, in the bathroom windowsill and on the stoep.
